The ISPE New Jersey Chapter along with the DVC Chapter presents a joint event planned for Thursday June 28, 2012. The event will feature an industry perspective from Lou Schmukler, President, Global Manufacturing and Supply of Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Lou Schmukler became president, Global Manufacturing & Supply, for Bristol-Myers Squibb in September 2011. In that role, Lou oversees the company's global manufacturing and supply organization with a presence in North America, Latin America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The organization develops, manufactures and supplies Bristol-Myers Squibb's innovative medicines worldwide. Lou is a member of the company's Senior Management Team. Before joining Bristol-Myers Squibb, Lou led Pfizer's worldwide biotech manufacturing as Senior Vice President, Specialty/Biotechnology Operating Unit. Prior to that, he oversaw global small molecule pharmaceutical manufactuing and Asia Pacific manufacturing operations for Wyeth, and held earlier leadership portions at Marion Merrell Dow, Hoffman-LaRouche and Novartis/Sandoz.
Lou holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from, Temple University and a master's degree in management from Webster University. He is an active member, holding a past and present leadership positions, in several industry organizations including Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), BioPhorum, Pharmaceutical International Leadership Forum and the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering.

Lou Schmukler will be presenting on the future of the pharmaceutical industry; what we need to do now. His presentation will cover the changing landscape that pharmaceutical industry is operating under including the impact of emerging markets and outsourcing. Lou will also be discussing what critical operational elements are necessary for the factory of the future including flexible manufacturing platforms, competitive benchmarking information, operational excellence elements, and critical reliability considerations. During Lou's talk he will be highlighting important studies that have been published and are currently being used by pharmaceutical companies to re-invent themselves to be able to provide greater access to medicines globally and to be more cost effective adding to shareholder value.
